'For the love of the Dae, Mika, I am still a teenager. Are you suggesting that, all those years ago, a seven year old boy had to be beaten, cast aside, pushed to the limits in order to prepare for a war? Sure it's important but it's calling having fun...(he paused, knowing that he would probably be hung, drawn and quartered by his entire family with their bare hands)...she's just a friend. I can have friends, can't I? Just a girl I met in the village. She poses no threat, don't worry. I mean...I...I sorta told her my last name, but that's it. She -'
He was interrupted by Fea's question - he had just managed to catch it. He sighed - she must have sensed the Dae. God, and Mika is worried about being revealed? And then spreads Dae all around the village.
'It's fine, Fea,' Koale muttered finally, then massaged the bridge of his nose. 'Just getting a little...headache.'
Again, his inane powers lying failed. He inhaled, sensing a whiff of Dae power surrounding the borders of the village. He knew a few tricks, but something told him it probably wouldn't be enough. He sent a message to Mika once again:
'Mika, if you don't want to be here, then don't! Just say I've ran off to Palivvas or something. Come on, sis, give me a break, will you?'

I am not that much older than you, Koale, Mikarathi hissed, And somehow I've always managed to remember the rules. Did he honestly think that she wouldn't rather occupy her time with something other than tracking down their enemies? She did it because it was necessary. The lives of the Derandera depended upon them. They did not have time for fun. At least when Mika took the chance to delve into the depths of the forest she was establishing connections. The Creatures of Dae were on their side, but it took some motivation to get any aid from them. A human could turn around and stab you in the back at any moment. The monarchy were living proof of that. Mortals were despicable. Mika would never understand Koale's seeming obsession with them. As much as she hated to admit it, perhaps this was a lesson that her brother had to learn on his own.
Reluctantly, Mika called off the Narritchsans guards, instructing them back to Rekkentara.
Fine, Mika grumbled lowly Koale, But I am not going to be far away. Watch yourself, brother.
For a while she remained on the rooftop, gaging Koale's reaction. She hoped her decision would not be too damaging.

His shoulders drooped, as if tons of weight had been lifted off his shoulders and he was free to travel the world. It was as if he had lost the name Narritchsens - well not lost, more left behind. He turned to Fea for a few seconds, and smiled. Why did his family had to treat humans with some animosity? Of course, the monarchy were of human blood, but he knew there would be those of that race who wouldn't be seen hurting a fly and would welcome peace. Since he finished his training, from the age of seven, a few weeks ago, he would dream of doing something different, but not through bloodshed, not through sliding a sword through the King's neck or destroying the monarchy, but maybe changing the future of this place into a shining utopia - where no quarrels exist between the monarchy, the family or anyone.
If only. He hoped that it wouldn't come to his family becoming enemies. He truly loved his family, but never seem to meet them eye to eye.
He sensed that Mikarathi had let down the barrier around the boundaries of the village, but kept his suspicions on red alerts, just in case she plans to trick him. Once again, ignoring Fea, Koale walked down the street towards the outskirts of the small town. He kept walking to see whether he would be reflected back, but his heart leapt when he watched one foot remain to step in front of the other, and vice versa.

As soon as the barriers went up, Cardine felt them drop again. It uneased her greatly. For what purpose had the Narritchsans withdrawn their net. A stray thought crossed her mind that perhaps Koale had been fooling her all along and the trap was secretly for herself and not a wayward youth. If this was the case it earned him infinite respect in her eyes, for he seemed not much more than a bumbling idiot.
No, Cardine scolded herself. Nobody can act that naive.
Frustratedly she watched as the boy traipsed off on her again. No, perhaps he wasn't aware of anything, but his skulking sister may be another case. Warily, she cast a glance around the darkened corners of the street. Mikarathi was famed for her vibrant red hair and piercing eyes, yet no traces of these could she catch in the shadows. Then again, the Narritchsans bitch was also famed for not revealing herself until the moment she was slitting your throat. The thought made her blood run cold.
In a rapid dilema as to whether abandon her mission or not, Cardine made a quick decision to follow after Koale once more. If things did turn out for the worst, perhaps she could at least convince him to stay on her side.
"Waih do ya keep on insistin' on runnin' off like that?" she huffed as she caught up with him, "Ah though' ah made it clear we're in this together. Wha' changed all of a sudden?"
Stealthily Mikarathi tracked after her brother. The seeming attachment of the whore-bitch worried her greatly. As she watched the woman race after Koale she felt a sore temptation to shoot a blast of Dae in her direction. The power practically thrummed at her fingertips, but such an action would get her nowhere. Instead she had to be merely content with watching.
Resentfully, noting her brother's intention to leave the town, she silently unravelled a grapple from her side and hauled herself cautiously into a nearby tree. In the action she made certain her movements were covered by thick foliage. None would see her, and any who heard her would simply thing it was the wind rustling the leaves. It was a form of stealth she had spent years practising.

Koale turned to Fea. It would be of no use - she would not stop following him unless he managed to sum up some plausible reason why she should just run off back to her life of...living...and whoring...and whatever a woman does round this places. He even felt the power of the Dae ringing quietly throughout this body, as if telling him to blast this person to smithereens. No one would look twice over the death of a whore, if this person was a whore. Surely, someone of her profession - while in a village flocked with sex crazed drunkards - wouldn't even make the effort to run after one client, while her clientele would already been shoving money down her breasts just for a quick flash, at least.
He let the temptation pass of blasting her to smithereens - mainly so that he doesn't risk it backfiring and blasting 'him' in smithereens.
Now, that would be awkward.
"Maybe my big sister must have raised...or maybe the sun has moved...and it's disturbed the natural order of...things, you know, natural."
Koale knew only an gullible idiot would believe something as ridiculous as this, and since the role of prostitute required no real educational demands, hopefully she would buy it.
And if she didn't. He may have to tell her...
...not all of it...just a bit so she would be satisfied and be on her merry little way...

'The natural order of things'? Yeesh, how lame did that sound? Cardine was positive that her disregard for the explanation was written all over her face, but to be honest, she did not really care. If Koale would cook up such an excuse, then he could expect such a disgruntled reaction. As if the world even had a natural order of things at the moment, things were so messed up. Yet was there even an order anyway? Cardine doubted it. History showed that the Dae, and creatures formed from it, had a tendancy to be unpredictable.
History. Cardine double checked itself. How much would her current character know about such things? It was too late to guard her response, and she valued her pride far too much to act so low a fool. No, Koale knew she'd come from Krokith, meaning she was at least somewhat world-wise. As to whether he'd caught on to the brief bit of Dae she'd used earlier, Cardine was unsure.
"Pleez, for tha love of Dae tell me ya don' expect me ta belive that!" Cardine exclaimed. "Yehr sis' was houndin' yehr ass an' naow what? She's jus' gone let you go? There's somethin' goin' on here that you ain' tellin' me. I though' we were gonna help each other. Can't do that if someone's bein' all secretive!"
Sister... how much had that little dirtbag been spilling? Mikarathi ground her teeth in agitation. Lie better than that Koale... or better yet, keep your damn mouth shut. If you don't... well, it would seem that she would have to get her hands dirty to make sure none of there secrets escaped. Who knows what filthy traitors that whore would talk to?

Koale thought long and hard about the next few words, planning and removing comments as if he was preparing a long speech about the state of the country's economy or something along those lines. This woman knew that he was a Narritchsens, and he also knew that he probably only had a few more years left till the monarchy decide to take full action against his family and then he would meet his end.
At that moment, he felt scared, as if reality had suddenly hit him and had kicked him out of his previous, fun loving mood back in the village. He took a deep breath; he knew his sister would be listening in to what he was saying, or maybe what he was planning to say, and would probably snap his neck without a second thought, but then he turned to Fea and listened - nearly zoning out for a moment like a depressed man deciding what method of suicide he should take - as she once again demanded to know what was going on. Was it right that he should keep this information from her? That he was actually being tracked down by his father's goons, that his sister had set up a forcefield to block him up and was now his personal shoulder devil or poltergeist.
He looked at Fea, in dread at how she would answer this question. "When you hear my surname...what do you immediately think of? I mean, what do you refer my name to? And don't you go fooling and saying something nice to cheer me up cos you ain't gunna pull no wool over my eyes, you hear?" Listening to himself, he could almost feel the irony pouring from his mouth.
He hoped that she would tell him the truth about how she feels, but then bit his lip and felt like a little boy again - and a painful sting of fear at the pit of his stomach, knowing that he could be dead in a short number of years.

Mikarathi sighed slightly with relief to hear her brother's words... slightly. At least they weren't condemning yet. Perhaps he did have some shred of sense in him, but to who that sense was aligned to she was unsure. Koale seemed to have a clouded view of their world, unable to see past the immediate actions to the impact things would have on everyone. Mika was almost certain that her brother viewed her as a viper, serving to bring nothing but pain and torment upon those she crossed, and Dae knows how much worse that statement went for their parents. Vaguely she recalled the time when a servant had been caught spying on their household. Koale had been only young at the time, and had the misfortune to wander in as the punishment was dealt out. The Narritchsans did not take betrayal lightly. For days, Koale had cried and screamed and refused to eat, Mikarathi had been the one ordered to force him back into shape.
Amidst all the years that lay in between now and that day, Mikarathi did not know whether Koale even still remembered the ordeal. She speculated that it may have had somehow affected him subconciously, goading his opinion against the necessities of brutality, but could not be sure that he would not have developed this way anyhow. For certain, he seemed to flair up worst at times when their parents were plotting strategic battle moves. Currently they were plotting to lead an assault, assassination really, on one of the King's generals who held a stronghold on the North of Krokith, just south of Kianwae. Normally such an act usually only required two or three of the more stealthy members of the Narritchans court, namely Mikarathi herself and a couple of loyal spies, however rumor had it that one of the Daelanis was in residence there at the moment. If such a rumour were true, it would require a much greater force to take them down, most likely enlisting Koale's abilities also. Mikarathi did not know whether or not her brother had been informed of this mission yet, but she wondered if it were not a trigger for this latest outbreak if he had.
Cardine pursed her lips, debated her response carefully. An honest answer would be suicidal, but what would her character think? She'd heard enough chitchat in bars over the years to paraphrase an idea response.
"I hear that your family can be ruthless, and cruel to cross. They don't take kindly to those who offended them and punishments can be brutal..." In reality, she'd heard that one man was stripped layer by layer of his skin, kept alive all the while by the Dae so that he could truly feel the pain before he died. Although, this was probably an exaggeration. Bar talk tended to emphasise on the vulgar and grotesque. He was probably just flogged for information before having his throat slit.
"But I also heard that you're the last hope this world has. The Dae is the lifeforce of Nicheitah, and your are it's last gunners. People look up to you as their saviours to protect them from the monarchy..." There was more Cardine could have said, but she forced herself to stop. She only wanted to convince him that he could trust her, not reinstate some proud faith in his cause. Unless she could persuade him that his family weren't really protecting the world at all... he did seem to have some built up anger at them. Perhaps she could coaxe him into become a vigilante? Now that could be interesting.
"But everything sounds so mixed," Cardine shrugged, "How much can y'all trust tavern talk anyway. Sometimes I don't know which side to behlive, but ah knaow that ya seem to be a pleasant enough folk to me! Ahm not one to judge without firsthand experience."

He felt better for hearing these words, but found it incredibly hard to believe her somehow - he could remember vaguely of some point when he was a child of a brutal act that his parents had done to another man, but what he had done he could not remember, but the same feeling of animosity that may have been the reason why his father decided to put him on his harsh training, and not because he was a wimpy, feral child but maybe because he was worried that his son would turn his back to him and fight for the monarchy. He shook that thought off immediately, knowing that some thought was probably blasphemous, regarding his father's almost god-like status over the family.
He hoped his sister knew that these outbursts, and these acts of running away to the village, had some motive, and suggested to her that her little brother was trying to break off from their family's terrible reputation before the family is truly wiped off the face of the world. She may do, she may not, but whatever happened, Koale knew that Mikarathi would not be persuaded to turn away from the path of what really was both our birthright.
Fea. A false name, he had felt from the moment she took specific interest in him - something that makes her unusual, noting her profession - and thankfully Koale managed to keep up the facade of the clueless little boy looking for a good day out. At some point, Koale had to turn to Fea and demand straight and directly what she had taken an interest in her, and who she was working for. Yes, several times he urged himself to ask her or even threaten to take the information by sword-point, but that would only fuel the Narritchsens blood through his veins - a rush that he was ashamed at having. He took a deep breath, Dae help him that this would not result in his death, or would at least add a few more hours till his death if Fea decides to attack.
"Fea...who are you working for? Tell me who you are working for? If it's the monarchy, you should tell me now and just kill me already - whoever you're working for are possibly plotting it out right now." Understanding the pain that the monarchy would put them in, he thought Fea may at least give him a mercy kill at the 'wonderful' adventure they've shared together. He sat down, and stared into the distance, tracing along the green line of forest that would lead him to his home. "Just do it quickly, yeah?"

Mikarathi nearly lost her grip on the branch she was so stunned to hear her brother's words. Was he insane? What in the world was he doing, handing himself over on a silver platter... and why had he defended his rights so stubbornly when he suspected fowl play? Surely asking for backup would have made better sense... unless Koale wanted to die... the though shook her to the core. Just what was her brother hiding from her?
As it was, her hand did slip a little down across the tree branch. It wasn't detrimental to her balance, but it made a sharp skuffling noise that caused Mikarathi to curse her clumsiness. She needed to be more focused. Staying as still as she could be, she prayed they would think her noise naught but a squirrel. She wanted to hear what the 'whore' had to say.
Cardine blanched, taken aback by Koale's forthright words. Had he really seen through her guise? Or was he just paranoid. Whatever the case, her instincts told her to act dumb. Did he really think that she would just kill a Narritchsans outright, on their own land? She'd never get off Wissnane alive!
"Ahm truly flattered that you think ahd have the power to take out one of y'all, but the truth is ah ain't workin' for nobody. Ya think I lahk workin' in a tavern all day and night? Ah only do so because ah got no other option. Ahm well aware I could manage better, but naone cares 'bout some skank from Krokith. Truth is ahm tired of it all and you seemed interesting. Ah thought maybe it'd be an opportunity to escape, maybe do some good."
An abrupt noise called Cardine's attention to the side. To a passing traveller, it may have been passable as a bird or rodent, but Cardine had grown to be wary of the sounds of the wild.
"There's something in the trees..." she murmurmed, her eyes scouring the treetops.
